The second constituency of Vienne extends over around forty municipalities, bringing together more than 120,000 inhabitants, ranging from Vouillé to La Villedieu-du-Clain, via Poitiers and its municipalities on the eastern and southern outskirts. For the European elections on June 9, 80,290 people were registered to vote. Only 45,189 did so.

Medical shortage

The deputy represents both the inhabitants of the Trois-Cités or Beaulieu districts in Poitiers and those of rural communes like Château-Larcher through suburban communes like Saint-Benoît or Ligugé.

The Poitiers University Hospital is located in the area which also includes the Vivonne prison. As in all districts of the department, the subject of access to care remains central. But also the training of doctors and caregivers. The outgoing deputy was until then a member – having an advisory voice – on the supervisory boards of the Poitiers University Hospital and the Laborit hospital center.

Valérie Soumaille (NFP) recently supported the strike of caregivers at the Poitiers polyclinic, pointing out in particular that “in twelve municipalities of the district, there is no longer a doctor”. Aurélien Bourdier (various left) thinks that it is necessary “more political voluntarism regarding the installation of new doctors” and wants to fight “against certain ultra-liberal policies which penalize caregivers and patients”.

Wind farm in Chalandray

Among the files which are likely to reach the parliamentary office of the next MP, that of the very controversial Chalandray wind farm, also on the edge of Deux-Sèvres.

Concerning security, the MP will not be able to ignore the subject of delinquency. During last year’s riots, the Trois-Cités police station was burned down. Valérie Soumaille advocates “prevention rather than repression”.

Concerning the subject of education, Sacha Houlié (Renaissance) recalls being “fought to preserve fifteen classes in the district’s rural schools” and to have “provided the University of Poitiers with the means necessary for its success, by supporting projects which have benefited from more than 20 million euros in public funding”.

Finally, according to INSEE, half of the population of this district is over 38 years old and “44.8% of main residences are occupied by a single person”. The questions of purchasing power and access to property therefore remain, here too as everywhere in the territory, a subject that makes Poitevins think.
