On the night of December 31, 2021 to 1er January 2022, in Saint-Brieuc, Wilfried Bonnefoy, 26, was killed by a stab wound above the heart. From Tuesday June 25 to Thursday June 27, 2024, the alleged perpetrator of this fatal blow, Askalane Maskati, now aged 25, is on trial before the Côtes-d’Armor Assize Court, at the Saint -Brieuc.
This New Year’s Eve 2022, several people meet in an apartment at 5, boulevard Vauban. There is Wilfried Bonnefoy and his partner there. Askalane Maskati too. He is heavily alcoholic and has consumed a lot of drugs. Cannabis, cocaine, MDMA.
The victim staggers, then collapses
Wilfried Bonnefoy’s partner is looking for drugs. Askalane Maskati already gave her a gram of cocaine at the end of the afternoon, she wants more. He refuses, gets angry. She asks the tenant of the apartment. Tone up. Wilfried Bonnefoy, who did not drink but took drugs, ordered his friend to leave. In vain.
In the hallway of the apartment, a fight breaks out. The tenant pushes Askalane Maskati, Wilfired Bonnefoy and his partner outside. It is on the landing that the first takes out a knife with an 11-centimeter blade from his bag. Wilfried Bonnefoy staggers, then collapses. The Samu will not be able to save him.
Two and a half years later, Askalane Maskati, in pre-trial detention since the day after the tragedy, is in the dock at the Côtes-d’Armor Assize Court. He is defended by Me Emmanuel Le Vacon, lawyer at the Saint-Brieuc bar.
Verdict expected Thursday June 27
The victim’s mother and brother have filed a civil suit, with counsel from Stéphane Baron, also from the Saint-Brieuc bar. It is Stéphane Cantero who brings the accusation, as general counsel.
The examination of the personality of the accused and the facts are scheduled for Tuesday, June 25. The forensic doctor and several witnesses will also be heard this Tuesday. The experts, psychiatrist and psychologist, will appear before the jurors on Wednesday morning, before the pleadings and requisitions in the afternoon. The verdict is expected Thursday June 27.
