This Sci-Fi Movie Is Leaving Netflix, And It’s Time To Give It A Second Chance

One of the most underrated science fiction films of recent years is about to leave Netflix.

When we talk about science fiction directors, we most often think of George Lucas, James Cameron or Ridley Scott. And that’s normal, each of these filmmakers having contributed enormously to the genre. To the saga Alien continues to invade our rooms, soon with Romulus, which still promises a lot of blood. The universe of Star Wars as for him will still water Disney for the next 100 years at least, while Terminator will eventually return to our cinemas sooner or later.

One of the others One of the greatest filmmakers to venture into science fiction is Steven Spielberg. : Minority Report, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, War of the Worlds or Close Encounters of the Third Kind have become classics, unlike this other feature film which, although well received upon its release, has seen its reputation fade over the years.

It’s time to give this movie a second chance before it leaves Netflix.

You who are trying to find the movie

Ready to watch one

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One marked Spielberg’s return to science fiction and adventure, seven years after his (super) animated film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the UnicornThe grand master of the genre, with his experience of motion capture on Tintin, has proposed one of his most ambitious projects, mixing sequences in real shots with scenes taking place in an environment entirely modeled in 3D.

For the director, it is not only a way to show technological prowess, but also to take advantage of the freedom of such a medium. Spielberg’s camera whirls and fully takes over its 3D space, especially during this fabulous running sequence in long shotdinosaur supplement and King Kong, which is a pure delight in terms of staging.

« You, saying goodbye to the movie (you missed it)«

Lovers of Spielberg and pop culture in general, you will definitely find something for you here. References of all kinds get tangled and respond to each other in an explosion of color that does not fall (all the time) into useless fan service. The filmmaker even goes so far as to use the notion of pop culture and transforms it into a weapon, all under the music of Alan Silvestri. A tribute that, it must be admitted, can sometimes fall into a kind of excess, but which remains largely entertaining during the 2h20 that we do not see go by.

So, it’s not necessarily his deepest project, but we can’t ignore the feat. For his film, Spielberg has surrounded himself with the beautiful world, including Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and TJ Miller. In short, catch up Ready Player One, you have until June 30 before the film leaves the Netflix catalog.
