FNH: For this edition, you chose the theme of the fan experience in major international competitions and how technology could improve it. What are the main points to remember?

O. I. G. : Highlights from this edition include several key aspects showing how technology is transforming the fan experience at international competitions. First, mobile apps and online platforms allow fans to instantly access statistics, videos and discussion forums, creating a more immersive experience. The use of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) enrich the spectator experience by offering immersive stadium views and additional player information. Smart ticketing solutions, such as mobile and contactless ticketing systems, improve access to events and reduce wait times. Social media plays a crucial role in allowing fans to share their experiences and interact live with teams and events. In addition, data analytics platforms personalize content and notifications according to fans’ preferences, making the experience more tailored to their interests. Finally, innovations in sports infrastructure, such as smart stadiums and technological improvements in facilities, provide a more engaging and efficient matchday experience. These innovations demonstrate how technology can make sport more accessible, interactive and enjoyable for everyone, contributing to a better overall fan experience.

FNH: How can technology and innovation influence business performance through sport?

O. I. G. : Technology and innovation can improve business performance in several ways. They make it possible to optimize internal processes, analyze data for more informed decision-making and develop new products and services adapted to market needs. In sports, this can mean better equipment, more effective sports management platforms and enriched fan experiences, which in turn can increase revenue and awareness for the companies involved. For example, the global sports economy market is worth more than $500 billion, with significant growth potential through technological innovation.

FNH: Can you tell us about Moroccan sports startups? And what must be done so that they can excel in this area and promote Made in Morocco loud and clear?

O. I. G. : Moroccan sports startups are increasingly numerous and innovative. They work on various solutions ranging from the management of sports facilities to the analysis of athlete performance, including mobile applications for sports fans. For them to excel, it is essential to create an environment favorable to innovation, with tax incentives, support programs and adapted infrastructure. Additionally, collaboration with international partners can provide valuable resources and knowledge to accelerate their development. Initiatives like Accelab’s “Stadium” acceleration program, which supports startups for six months, are essential to supporting this growth.

FNH: In your opinion, why do entrepreneurs not dare to take too much risk investing in this promising and lucrative sector?

O. I. G. : Several factors can explain this reluctance. First, the lack of in-depth knowledge of the sports sector and its specific opportunities. Then, the absence of clear and incentive regulatory frameworks for investors in the sports field. Finally, the perception of risks linked to investments in new technologies and startups can slow down initiatives. It is therefore crucial to increase the visibility of successes in this sector and promote the long-term benefits of investing in the sports industry. For example, returns on investment during the Africa Cup of Nations demonstrated a significant economic impact, which should further encourage entrepreneurs to engage in this sector.

FNH: What role does entrepreneurship play in the sports ecosystem?

O. I. G. : Entrepreneurship plays a central role in the sports ecosystem by providing innovative solutions that improve the organization and management of events, athlete performance, and fan experience. Entrepreneurs can develop cutting-edge technologies for security, logistics, and broadcasting of competitions, while creating economic opportunities for the country. By supporting startups and fostering collaborations with international partners, Morocco can position itself as a leader in the organization of large-scale sporting events. The preparation of the 2025 AFCON and the 2030 World Cup requires investments in technological infrastructure, and local entrepreneurship plays a key role in setting up this infrastructure.
