A young man aged 17 was shot and killed this Sunday afternoon in Rumilly, we learned from a judicial source, confirming information from our colleagues in the newspaper The Dauphiné Libéré. Another young man aged 20 was seriously injured and his life is in jeopardy.
Several shootings in the middle of the afternoon in the city center
Around 4:30 p.m., this Sunday, November 17, a fight broke out between several young people in the city center of Rumilly, near the Place d'Armes, opposite the Quai des Arts. An area very frequented by the inhabitants of Rumilly, especially children since games are nearby. According to the first elements of the investigation, at least five individuals are involved in this brawl which lasted several minutes. Several people witnessed the scene and some tried to intervene to stop the fight.
A deceased teenager and a young man between life and death
The tone rose between these young people and several gunshots rang out. A Rumillian teenager, aged 17, was hit by one or more shots. He died on the spot. Another young man aged 20 was seriously injured by gunfire. He was airlifted, in absolute emergency, to Annecy hospital. His vital prognosis is in jeopardy this Sunday evening.
“An investigation was opened for homicide, entrusted to the research section (SR) of Chambéry“ Benoit Defournel, the deputy prosecutor of Annecy, told France Bleu Pays de Savoie this Sunday evening. “We do not yet know the difference behind this fight, it is too early to say but all avenues will be explored: drug trafficking, theft, romantic disappointment“. “All witnesses will be heard to understand what happened“.
Around sixty gendarmes mobilized
A large police force was deployed. Around sixty gendarmes were mobilized this Sunday evening in Rumilly. A large security perimeter has been set up near the Quai des Arts. “The place is closed“ adds Benoit Defournel. On site, personnel from the Annecy research brigade but also from the Annecy gendarmerie company. A psychological unit will be set upespecially for those who witnessed this scene of extreme violence in the middle of Sunday afternoon in the town center of Rumilly.
