Promote disabled sports. This is one of the missions of the Orange Fencing Circle (CEO), chaired by Bruno Alberro, who, after the organization of the French championship in 2022 and a first satellite world cup in 2023, was once again selected to organize a new major disabled fencing event. Under the aegis of the International Wheelchair Sports Federation, this event called “Guillaume d’Orange”, began this Saturday with the men’s and women’s foil and epee events, and continues this Sunday, with those of sabre. .

In total, 40 fencers from ten different nationalities, aged from 16 to over 60, come together in the Alphonse-Daudet space to compete. Among these para-athletes, some will participate in the Paris Games, which will begin at the end of August. This is the case, for example, of the Spaniard, Judith Rodríguez Menéndez, who prevailed against her opponents by winning first place in the foil event.

Take a different look at disability

Open to the public, Bruno Alberro invites everyone to come and discover this discipline, a real tool for deconstructing preconceptions linked to disability. “Our slogan is to fight prejudices and self-esteemindicates the president of the CEO. Self-esteem also depends on how we view others. If we don’t have a calm and thoughtful look at people with disabilities, who, for the most part, just want to fend for themselves, I don’t see how we can value ourselves.“.

This Sunday at the Alphonse-Daudet space, saber event, Men’s and Women’s categories. Finals at 12 p.m. FREE ENTRANCE.
