Guyana: The very first store within the Saint-Maurice rum factory in Saint-Laurent was inaugurated

For Ludovic Jacob, director of Saint-Maurice rums and Grégoire Gueden, director of the rum division of the GBH company, this new store aims to develop tourism in Saint-Laurent through tastings of local rums. “We wanted to have additional tourist appeal in Saint-Laurent du Maroni, welcome customers and receive visitors at the Rhumerie. The priority of this space is to introduce people to local rum, highlight the excellence of Guyanese production, sugar cane grown in Saint-Laurent du Maroni and the distillation done on site within the Rhumerie. We wanted to open the site where visitors and locals could better familiarize themselves and understand the product and manufacturing. It was important to open up to our audiences and allow them to touch the production and discover it in situ. »

Visitors will be able to visit the Saint-Maurice rum factory to discover the history of rum in Guyana, assures Grégoire Guéden, director of the rum division of the GBH company. “We plan to open the distillery to tours and offer guided tours. The tasting space and the shop are located in the very heart of the distillery, this allows visitors to discover this new space to be able to see the distillery, while waiting for more structured tour circuits. »

As a reminder, last year, it was the Bernard Hayot group, which notably owns the Martinique rums JM and Clément, which took over the only rum industry in Guyana.
