Geneva- Morocco is banking on the structural transformation of its economy, through a new generation industrial policy aimed at implementing a global and integrated development project, affirmed, Thursday in Geneva, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri.
Morocco is keen to implement its development project in a context of stability and social peace, because the challenge is not only to achieve growth, but also to stimulate inclusive development for all layers of Moroccan society, while seeking spatial justice through the opening of the national economy to global production chains, Sakkouri told a plenary session of the World Leaders Forum, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
In this context, the minister noted that Morocco has concluded a series of free trade agreements which have opened a vast market for Moroccan products, and has adopted public policies aimed at rehabilitating the environment for highly productive industrial sectors. .
And to specify that the Kingdom has made significant progress in a new generation of industries, notably the automobile and the aerospace sector, an area in which it is at the forefront on an African scale.
The minister highlighted Morocco’s success in developing a promising offer for investment in renewable energies, particularly in the field of green hydrogen, stressing that Morocco is working to triple investments in energy renewable.
He also reviewed some of the efforts made in terms of investment in human resource training which underpin the development of many productive sectors, as evidenced by the trades and skills cities which cover vital industrial areas.
Organized by UNCTAD, the Global Leaders Forum is an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned over the past six decades and chart a new course for the future of trade in relation to development around the world.
Centered on the theme “Charting a New Path for Development in a Changing World”, the Forum seeks to catalyze action to reimagine development in the era of multilateral globalization, with a view to building a future that is resilient, equitable and sustainable.
The Forum includes a two-day program of meetings, with the participation of heads of state, heads of institutions, economists and leading experts.
Participants will discuss innovative ways to address sustainable development issues and strengthen UNCTAD’s role and influence in the area of trade and development, paying particular attention to the needs of developing countries.
