It is an emblematic fight whose epilogue will be played out in the Vaudois ballot boxes. The protection of Mormont Hill, and more broadly non-renewable natural resources, is the subject of a popular initiative, and now a government counter-project. The latter was made public this Thursday, June 13 by the environmentalist State Councilor in charge of the Environment Vassilis Venizelos. Through this text, the Council of State wants to include the principle of circular economy – use of environmentally friendly materials and reduction of waste through recycling and reuse – in the Vaud Constitution. He also proposes to offer the Mormont site the same protection as Venoge, via a modification of the law on the protection of natural and landscape heritage (indirect counter-project). As part of the Climate Plan, the government also announces that it is submitting to the Grand Council a budget of 1.1 million francs in order to promote the development of the circular economy in construction.
