VSexpensive and energy-intensive, do public swimming pools still have a future? Yes, say the two intercommunal authorities of South Charente. If the 4Bs closed the Barbezieux swimming pool in 2023, they have just completed the first studies to rehabilitate the pool. For the second year in a row, residents, schools and associations are invited to go to the second intercommunal swimming pool, in Baignes. Free shuttles between the two towns will appear again for the holidays.
Among the neighbors of Lavalette Tude Dronne (LTD), the fate of the three basins, and in particular that of Chalais threatened with closure, led to the formation of a collective last fall. An outcry which led to two public meetings and the creation of a working group with the local community to imagine the 2024 season. As a result, the three LTD swimming pools are ready. The Montmoreau and Gardes-le-Pontaroux basins have already taken up summer quarters for three months. While the Chalais swimming pool will open on July 6 with a grand opening party the day before from 5 p.m., followed by a synchronized swimming show. But it will play overtime until the end of September. A first to compensate for the lack of heating of the ever-warmer pool water at the end of the season.
Festive evenings
The Montmoreau swimming pool also had its launch party last Saturday. In addition to aquabike and aquagym sessions, the swimming section of the AJM (Amicale jeunesse Montmoreau) will offer activities in July and August: crossfit swimming, introduction to diving, discovery of underwater sports, etc.
Finally, planted in the middle of the fields, the Gardes-le-Pontaroux swimming pool and its leisure center stand out thanks to their proximity to Grand Angoulême. They offer a wide range of hours, on-site catering with festive evenings on Tuesday and Friday evenings including a “Pool Party” on July 12 and numerous activities.
