There is great emotion in Nice, and beyond, after the death of a two-wheel driver early Tuesday night on the Promenade des Anglais. The accident killed Jérémie Boulon, a 41-year-old professional firefighter, who had just finished his service. He worked at the Hancy barracks.

The Nice public prosecutor, Damien Martinelli, indicated Tuesday evening that an investigation was opened on charges of involuntary manslaughter and failure to assist a person in danger.

According to Damien Martinelli, the first elements “would tend to show” that the Mercedes was traveling at high speed on the Promenade des Anglais. Four people were on board. The vehicle did not respect a red light before hitting the victim who was driving a two-wheeler at 257 Promenade des Anglais, at the intersection of avenue Raymond-Feraud.

“The victim had just finished his service as a firefighter at the Hancy barracks in Nice,” specifies Damien Martinelli.

Samu and 23 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

The victim, the driver of the two-wheeler, was unfortunately declared dead. It is a 41-year-old professional firefighter, Jérémie Boulon. The shock was terrible. The driver of the two-wheeler was thrown more than 60 meters. The four occupants of the Mercedes aged between 16 and 26 fled. Three were caught not far from the accident scene, the last reported to the police. An investigation has been opened.

Three of the people in custody are adults, and one is a minor, says the prosecutor. One of the adults has already been convicted, notably for offenses relating to road traffic.

Toxicological analyses as well as investigations into the circumstances of the events and the involvement of the persons in custody are still ongoing. “The custody measures will be extended,” the public prosecutor indicated on Tuesday evening.
