Paris 2024. The Games torch relay in Marne disrupted by… the RN score

When the flame of the RN comes to flicker that of the Olympic Games… Certainly, the effects generated by the next legislative elections risk being much more significant for our country. However, the Paris Olympics torch relay finds itself in competition with these ballots, which were not really planned a year ago when the torch relay map was unveiled.

By winning the European elections last Sunday, the RN pushed the President of the Republic to dissolve the National Assembly, therefore to organize legislative elections on Sunday June 30 and July 7. If, at 2n/a turn, the flame must travel through the department of Eure-et-Loir, on June 30, for the 1er turn, it is the Marne which has been preparing for months to welcome the symbol of the Games. Between 9 a.m. and 7:20 p.m., the torch must, that Sunday, cross the towns of Vitry-le-François, Giffaumont-Champaubert, Châlons-en-Champagne, Sainte-Ménehould, Épernay, Sézanne and Reims.

However, like the 600 others in the Marne, these municipalities will organize the elections with polling stations open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The human resources of these municipalities are not scalable, just like those of the police and it is to be feared that access to these polling places will not be smooth, arteries being closed to traffic to leave the field free to flame. Moreover, although the torch relay stage took place this Sunday in Guyana, this event did not coincide with the holding of the European elections. As in other French overseas communities, the vote was held there on Saturday June 8…

Monday 1er July in the Marne?

Obviously, the Organizing Committee of the Paris Olympic Games, informed like all French people on Sunday at 9 p.m., “will contact the Ministry of the Interior to ensure there is a good balance between the organization of the Torch Relay and the holding of legislative elections”, its communications department told us this Monday.

Luckily, the flame route schedule contains a few off days, without relays, including Monday 1er July. That is, the day after the date planned for his tour in the Marne. This would only postpone the festivities by one day. “Logically, we should have an answer this week”, is the ambition of the Department of Marne, which paid €180,000 to receive the flame. On the other hand, the Marne prefecture did not respond to our requests.

As for Aisne, after its “gold medal” for the best national score of the RN (50.64%) on Sunday, the passage of the flame remains scheduled for Wednesday July 17. There the elections will be over. However, our country will perhaps then have a new Minister of Sports. And a new Minister of the Interior. But this is another story…
