Five new works arrive at the Musée de l’Annonciade in Saint-Tropez

A nice surprise last Monday awaited the participants in the general assembly of the Friends of the Annonciade: five new works, which are drawings, inks or etchings, have made or will make their entry into the museum.

The first of these drawings is a Manguin which entered the collection somewhat by chance: the Barasc couple, well known in Saint-Tropez, unearthed this Indian ink drawing in Brittany representing a study for nudes. They immediately notified the Friends of the Annonciade who, obviously very interested, came forward to purchase it. They donated it to the museum for the happiness of all art lovers.

The work was, for the first time, presented to the public on this occasion, and is already hanging in the museum. It can be admired on the first floor.

Rouault and Dunoyer de Segonzac also

Also unusual are the three etchings by Rouault, offered by Jean-Yves Rouault, grandson of the artist, and his wife, on the occasion of the beautiful exhibition last summer.

They come from a series of etchings created for the series “The reincarnations of Ubu Roi”, by Alfred Jarry, to illustrate a work republished by Ambroise Vollard, a very famous art dealer. “It is a great honor to have these three documents” specifies, not without a certain emotion, Séverine Berger.

Finally, the Goldsmiths offered an ink by Dunoyer de Segonzac, representing vines to Gassin. “It is now a beautiful collection of graphic art that we are starting to have, and which will be exhibited in a slightly more significant way after the expansion of the museum.” rejoices Séverine Berger.

A long but reassuring process

The works mentioned during this assembly are, obviously, not simple drawings, however great the artists concerned may be.

Séverine Berger provides some decisive details on the subject: “The Manguin has been with us for a year. The Rouault and the Goldsmith for months. If we can only showcase them several months after their acquisition or donation, it is because a very long circuit, certainly tedious , but safe and essential, must be carried out.”

A scientific commission must first meet so that this acquisition can then be presented to the Purchasing Committee of the Museums of France. Given his opinion, the work becomes part of the heritage of the museums of France. This is not trivial, as Séverine Berger specifies: “From then on, these works are inalienable. They cannot be sold. They are also imprescriptible, that is to say that in the event of theft, they can be claimed without time limit, unlike the works of individuals.”

Conferences: three big evenings this fall

The first part of the conferences given at the Renaissance by the Friends of the Annonciade ended on June 12 with “Artists and sport” in homage to the Paris Olympics. Three conferences are already on the program after the summer.
