At the end of a successful second edition, the jury of the Biarritz Film Festival – NOUVELLES VAGUES awarded its prestigious awards to the winners. From the Grand Prize to the Student Jury Prize, we take stock of this great list of winners!

A successful second edition

From June 18 to 23, the second edition of the Biarritz Film Festival – NEW WAVES. At the end of five days of screenings, meetings and conferences aimed at highlighting a new generation of filmmakers and actors, find out which films and performances were rewarded.

This year, eight feature films were in competition to be awarded the Best Film Prize by an exceptional international jury, chaired by Léa Mysius (Ava, Les Cinq Diables) and composed of Zoey Deutch (The Outfit), Vincent Lacoste (César for best supporting actor for Lost Illusions), Kim Higelin (nominated for the César for female breakthrough for Consent), Margaret Zhang (Chinese director, photographer and writer), Manu Rios (Elite, Strange Way of Life) , Kitty Chicha (Morrison) and Arash Khaksari (internationally renowned photographer).

A full house of more than 1,400 people had the chance to attend the awards ceremony on June 22 and discover the following winners:

The Jury of international artists also awarded a Special Mention to the film À son image, by Thierry de Peretti.

Girls Will Be Girls, Eat the Night and The Outrun big winners of this second edition

Awarded the prestigious Grand Prix of this second edition of the Biarritz Film Festival – NOUVELLES VAGUES, Girls Will Be Girls therefore succeeds A Song Sung Blue by Zihan Geng.

In theaters on August 21, the feature film by Shushi Talati tells the story of Mia (Preeti Panigrahi). At 16, the young girl leads the life of a model student in an elite boarding school in northern India. As the exams approach, her mother Anila (Kani Kusruti) returns to the region to support her and watch over her. But Mira’s meeting with a new student, Sri (Kesav Binoy Kiron), will sow trouble in the relationship between the two women, each finding themselves confronted with their own desires.

Eat the Night, by Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel, was crowned with the Jury Prize as well as the Student Jury Prize. So much success for The Outrun, awarded the Pass Culture Jury Prize and the Interpretation Prize, awarded to Saoirse Ronan for her performance.
