Jordan Bardella confirms that he wants to ban dual nationals from occupying “strategic” state positions

The president of the National Rally intends to reserve “the most strategic positions in the State” for “French nationals”, whom he distinguishes from dual nationals. To protect against the risk of foreign interference. But without us knowing for the moment his definition of a “strategic” position.

This is a shock measure in the National Rally program. Its president Jordan Bardella, who aspires to the post of Prime Minister after the legislative elections, confirmed this Monday, June 24, his desire to exclude dual national French people from “strategic” state positions, particularly in the Defense sector.

“Yes, I confirm to you that the most strategic positions in the State will be reserved for French citizens and French nationals,” he declared during a press conference, without further specifying the reasons for this proposal. An announcement which comes just after a similar speech by the deputy and spokesperson RN Sébastien Chenu this Monday morning on TF1.

“Protect yourself from attempts at interference”

“For a very simple reason, it is that there are strategic positions linked to the security or defense sectors which are by definition strategic sectors. Reserving them for French citizens is also one of the ways “others to protect themselves from attempts at interference that could be orchestrated by foreign states”, detailed Jordan Bardella.

“Today, can we imagine Franco-Russians working in the Ministry of the Armed Forces?” asked the former leader of the National Rally in the European elections.

But for the moment, the RN has not specified what could be considered a “strategic” position or not.

According to Sébastien Chenu, this measure will involve “an organic law and a decree”. The MP assured that for the rest, people with dual nationality would have the same rights as others, contrary to what the RN proposed in 2022. “When you are Franco-this or Franco-that, you are French and you you obviously have the same rights as any French person,” he said.

The elected RN had defended the abolition of dual nationality on June 13 on C8, before backpedaling in the evening, noting that “Marine Le Pen has renounced this measure and does not intend to return to it”.
