The Vienne Rural Coordination has launched a call to demonstrate on Monday June 24 in front of the Vienne Prefecture, clearly expressing the intention to enter the building with tractors, skips and blades. This appeal, relayed by the Chamber of Agriculture, was not declared within the legal deadline of three clear days.

Faced with the risk of serious disturbances to public order and in order to preserve the integrity of law enforcement as well as public property, the Prefect of Vienne issued an order prohibiting this demonstration. The prefect stressed that this measure was necessary to avoid any disruption.

Openness to Dialogue

Despite this ban, the Prefect has shown his desire to maintain a constructive dialogue with the agricultural world. He summoned the president of Rural Coordination for a meeting on Friday and offered to receive a small delegation this Monday at the prefecture. This meeting will discuss farmers’ concerns, including bad weather, CAP payments and cash flow tensions.

Legal Consequences

Please note that any violation of the prefectural decree exposes the organizer to a penalty of six months’ imprisonment and a fine of €7,500, in accordance with article 431-9 of the Penal Code. Participants are exposed to a fourth class fine, as stipulated by article R 644-4 of the same code.
