While many French and Germans are looking forward to hosting the Olympic Games and the men’s football Euro this summer, their authorities are worried about the terrorist threat. The Islamic State organization has called for attacks against these sporting events, and Swiss and foreign intelligence services consider the risk to be high. The Federal Council has therefore decided to temporarily strengthen border controls, it announced this Friday in a press release. It relies on targeted interventions based on risk analyses. There is no question of systematically checking all passages.

Even if the common Schengen area is based on open borders, France and Germany have expressed their satisfaction with Berne, we hear. Their fears are real, particularly in France.
