Senegalese customs struck a major blow this Sunday, November 24, 2024, by intercepting 235 kg of pure cocaine in the Kaffrine region, once again demonstrating the effectiveness of their control units in the fight against international drug trafficking.
Koungheul, a commune located in the Kaffrine region in east-central Senegal, was the scene on Sunday November 24, 2024 of a major drug seizure by the Mobile Customs Brigade.
Agents intercepted 210 strips of pure cocaine, weighing a total of 235 kg, during the check of a single-cabin L200 pick-up vehicle coming from a neighboring country.
During a thorough check, a sophisticated hiding place set up between the chassis and the bed of the vehicle revealed the presence of the drugs. The tests carried out by the detection kits, confirmed by the National Technical and Scientific Police Laboratory, authenticated the nature of the substance.
The value of this seizure is estimated at 18.8 billion CFA francs. The driver, a foreign national, was immediately arrested. The investigation is currently underway.
This dragnet is part of a series of successful operations. Between March and November 2024, customs units have already seized 2,114 kg of cocaine on the Dakar-Kidira corridor, representing a value of 169 billion CFA francs.
The Customs Administration reaffirms its determination to combat transnational organized crime and international drug trafficking.
