Step 4 of the Tour de France 2024 is being disputed this Tuesday, July 2 between Pinerolo et Valloire over 139.6 kilometers. The route of the 4th stage of the Tour de France 2024: the first in the mountains

It’s from Pinerolo that the start of the 4th stage of the Tour de France 2024 this Tuesday, July 2nd. At 1:05 p.m., the riders involved will be released on the course of the day’s 139.6-kilometer stage. From the outset, the terrain will rear up in the direction of Sestrières. It is a group of strong riders who will take the lead since there will not be a meter of flat in the first 50 kilometers. At the top of Sestriere, the riders will dive towards Cesana Torinese to begin the rise of the Montgenevre Pass (2nd category – 8.3 km at 6.0%) which will mark the return to France of the Big loop.

After these first two passes, the runners will head towards Briancon to then go and get the Galibier Pass (Hors Catégorie – 22.9 km at 5.1%). The riders will climb up to 2,600 meters above sea level for a first test between the favorites of the general classification. The finish of the 4th stage of the Tour de France 2024 will not be judged at the summit. At the tipping point, there will remain about twenty kilometers of descent to reach ValloireA breakaway could go all the way, unless the favourites decide to measure themselves in this first high mountain stage.

The favourites of the 4th stage of the Tour de France 2024 are none other than the best climbers of this 111th edition. Despite a downhill finish, it is a safe bet that the favorites of the general classification will want to show themselves, notably by passing the summit of the Galibier at an altitude of 2,600 meters.
