Olympic Games, Tour de France… the year 2024 will be sporting or it will not be. An exhibition traces sports practice in Haute-Marne at the Departmental Archives.

Also, the exhibition “Sport in Haute-Marne, take a leap into history” is timely. “We wanted to promote the sporting practices of its territory through a retrospective”, explains Élisabeth Charron, director of the Departmental Archives. Tour de France, Olympic Games… sport in the department will be very present in the coming days. The exhibition looks back at the evolution of practices from Antiquity to the spread of sport throughout French society after the war, and also highlights the champions of Haut-Marne. Thus a boxing glove by Maurice Chanet, a football cup from Chaumont from 1910 and from the CVB in 2000, a Stéphanie Malarme fencing outfit or medals from Axel Clerget are shown.

“Dancing is training in fencing”

A collection had been organized among individuals and sports clubs to collect objects linked to Haut-Marne sport. Around twenty donations and loans (photos, dissertation, diploma, etc.) were collected. “The exhibition is built using our funds and loans from museums”, underlines the director.
