NHL: Chicago Blackhawks stock up on players

Forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Teuvo Teravainen and Patrick Maroon will join the Chicago Blackhawks.

Bertuzzi signed a four-year deal that will pay him an average of $5.5 million annually, while Teravainen will return to Chicago with a three-year contract that will pay an average of $5.4 million. Maroon, meanwhile, signed for one season at $1.3 million.

Bertuzzi played last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, after signing a one-year, $5.5 million deal. Bertuzzi had 21 goals and 22 assists for a total of 43 points in 80 games.

A second-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2013, Bertuzzi has 113 goals and 261 points in 406 NHL games. He had a career-high 62 points in 68 games in 2021-22 with the Wings.

Teravainen, on the other hand, was drafted by the Hawks 18th overall in 2012 and won a Stanley Cup in 2013. He was traded to the Hurricanes after two seasons in Chicago with Brian Bickell for a second-round pick and a third-round pick.

Last year, the 29-year-old Finn scored 25 goals and 53 points in 76 games. He has a total of 459 points in 670 career games.

Ultimately, Maroon spent last season with the Minnesota Wild before being sent to Boston at the trade deadline. He had 16 points in 49 games in Minnesota before being limited to two games with the Bruins. He played in all 13 of Boston’s playoff games, recording two assists.

Meanwhile, forward Joey Anderson and the Hawks have agreed to a two-year deal with an average annual salary of $800,000. He recorded 17 points in 55 games last season in Chicago.

Reinforcement in front of the net

The Hawks also added a goalie to their roster with the signing of Laurent Brossoit. The 31-year-old goalie spent last season with the Winnipeg Jets, his second stint in Manitoba.

He was smoldering as backup to Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck, going 15-5-2 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .927 save percentage.

The two-year agreement will earn him $3.3 million per year.
