SAINTE MARIE. In recognition of his exceptional career, at the congress of the Association of Regional Developers of Quebec (AARQ), Érick Olivier de Sainte-Marie was awarded the Louise-Audet Prize. The event took place last Thursday, April 11 at the Château Laurier Hotel in Quebec City.

Presented every three years, the Louise-Audet Prize aims to recognize the leadership, sense of innovation and commitment of regional planners who are members of the AARQ. As for Érick Olivier, he was employed by the MRC de La Nouvelle-Beauce for 37 years, from 1983 to 2020. Before his departure from the MRC, he held the position of director of the planning and development since 2015.

“I didn’t know that my colleagues had submitted my application. It was a nice surprise! […] This is the ultimate reward for planners. It crowns my great career,” he is satisfied.

Note that Mr. Olivier was notably project manager in the creation of the La Nouvelle-Beauce Medical Center. Still today, he is a director of the Société de l’arbre Mariveraine (SAMAR – which he co-founded 31 years ago!) and a director of the Chaudière-Appalaches Regional Environmental Council (CRÉCA) for the last two years.

“I still have my commitment to the community,” he said, proud of having been able to gain the trust of elected officials, year after year.

“Mr. Olivier’s trajectory has been punctuated by daring challenges and remarkable successes, all driven by an unfailing dedication to the harmonious development of his territory. As a visionary planner, he was able to instill a spirit of collaboration and consultation which continues today,” brought to his attention Marie-Josée Larose, director of the land use planning and development department at the MRC de La Nouvelle-Beauce and associated with the submission of the application.
