This action aims to maintain pressure on politicians in view of the elections on June 9. “Since the 1970s, various austerity measures have been applied to education with the direct consequence of undermining its quality and accessibility,” explains the FEF. “To make matters worse, higher education is financed through closed envelopes and, while the budgetary volume stagnates, the number of students only increases,” she continues.

Public refinancing of education must therefore be one of the priorities of the next government, whoever it may be, according to the federation. “It is untenable for the resources allocated to students to decline year after year while we are always asking for more effort and involvement from teachers and pupils/students,” she insists.

For their part, the unions designate pell-mell as sensitive points the shortage of teachers, the size of classes, the overload of work, financing, supervision (psycho-medical-social centers), qualifying teaching and social promotion, as well as the evaluation of teachers in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. For all this, they demand concrete solutions.

The procession will set off around 10 a.m. from Brussels Central station. He will then head to Place Surlet de Chokier, seat of the government of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, where speeches are expected.
