In the landscape of classical music, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon have established themselves as two essential figures. At 48, Renaud, violinist and conductor, enchants international stages, while Gautier, 43, cello virtuoso, has a string of prestigious collaborations. Together the brothers share an obvious complicitywhether in life or on stage. Their recent concert for the reopening of Notre-Dame de once again illustrated their complementarity.

The Capuçon: siblings lulled by music

But this musical and family story could have a third protagonist: Aude, their older sister. A promising pianist from a very young age, the latter shared with her brothers a passion for music. Renaud spoke in an interview given to Paris Match the emotion of a gift he had given Gautier as a teenager: a Brahms record accompanied by a word of hope, wishing that they could one day play these trios together. “When I was 14, I gave Gautier a Brahms record. Inside the cover, I wrote: ‘I hope we can play these trios together’.”, he confided. This dream, however, never saw the light of day on stage.

Aude Capuçon: the artist in the background

If Renaud and Gautier Capuçon chose to make music their career, Aude opted for another path. Their sister left the stage to devote herself to a more discreet lifebecoming a speech therapist. However, music remains an essential part of his identity. Laurence Ferrari’s husband recently confided that his sister had taken up the piano again, but only for her personal pleasure.

Even in the background, Aude plays a key role in the family dynamic and is a source of inspiration and support for his brothers. The publication of a photo of the reunited siblings, shared on Instagram by Renaud at the start of 2025, moved fans. This photo symbolizes the importance of family ties in their common history, despite divergent trajectories.

Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, a complementary duo

Although they are often associated as an emblematic duo, Renaud and Gautier are keen to maintain a certain artistic independence. The violinist explained that they prefer to explore their personal projects to avoid routine and preserve the freshness of their musical reunion. “We’re not mad, but we felt that going our separate ways was best for our respective careers.”, confided the prodigy, in the columns of Closer in February 2024. Their duo concerts, like the one planned this summer in Verbier, are then experienced as exceptional moments.
