Jacques Audiard’s film is notably selected for the best film prize. The ceremony for this British equivalent of the Oscars is scheduled to take place on February 16.

EMilia Perezthe latest film by Jacques Audiard, shines beyond French borders. The musical thriller, already rewarded at Cannes with the jury prize and the best actress prize, received no less than fifteen nominations for the Bafta Awards, the British equivalent of the Oscars. No work has caught the eye of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts as much. The feature film shot in Spanish, which tells the story of the gender transition of a Mexican drug trafficker, is notably nominated in the categories of best film, best non-English language film, best director, and best costumes. Karla Sofía Gascón can hope to win the best actress award; Adriana Paz and Selena Gomez are in the race to be crowned best supporting actress.
February 16, date of the ceremony, Emilia Perez will compete with Conclave by Edward Berger (fourteen nominations), The Substance of the Frenchwoman Coralie Fargeat, (eleven nominations), Anora by Sean Baker or Dune: Part 2 by Denis Villeneuve, (nine nominations each). Last year, the British Academy awarded the prize for best original screenplay to Anatomy of a fall. Only one award, while Justine Triet’s film was nominated in seven categories.
Jacques Audiard’s UFO can also hope for success at the Oscars on March 3. Chosen to represent France for the best international film award, Emilia Perez was also shortlisted by the Academy in the categories of Best Sound, Best Music, Best Song and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The final nominations will be known on January 17.
