“A bear in the Jura”, “Bird”, “Everything will be fine” and “Six days”

After two comedies more “classic”, Everyone standing et Rumba life, Franck Duboscturns to film noir for his third production. Even if, for the actor-director, the three feature films have common themes: “ I have DNA that I cannot and will not change. So there is a common denominator in each of my films. And it’s often a human connection […] If I made a film without it, I would be missing something; I would feel like I was faking things. » A film that he mainly chose to make because it is close to his audience tastes: “ Although I love comedies, I am more naturally drawn to crime films. » However, Franck Dubosc did not want to make an American-style film, even if it is a type of cinema that he appreciates: “ It remains a French film with very French characters, who wear French anoraks, take their children to school, even the gendarmes who look like gendarmes. »

Absurd and bloody humor

Franck Dubosc plays in his film but, unlike these first two features, he plays a less central role: “ Because this time I wanted to give myself space as a director […] I knew I was going to have to knit their stories a little more to prevent them from going to the ace. » Especially since with this change of genre, the director wanted to work with new actors: “ I even changed casting directors on this film to one more specialized in ‘arthouse’ films. »

It thus justifies the choice of Laure Calamy : « Laure, I knew she could be as funny as she was tragic. But that’s what she does in Full time which convinced me: she is there with both boundless energy and fragility. It was this Laure that I wanted, not the one, more in a more comic register, ofAntoinette in the Cévennes. » The actress, a true chameleon, had no trouble slipping into her world. “ And if a priori, our universes on paper are distant, insists Laure Calamy, I didn’t expect a scenario like thisA bear in the Juraits absurd and bloody humor, a bit like the Coen Brothers. But even more so by the audacity with which Franck wanted to take a different path. Which I really liked. » A feeling also shared by the actor Benoît Poelvoorde: “ There are a lot of preconceived ideas about Franck. Now, if I have one quality, it is that of never reading a script with preconceptions. What interests me is its quality. I found this one wonderful, pretty, well written. I had the impression that Franck wanted to indulge in a particularly careful stylistic exercise, as if he had written with the images already in mind. »

Let laughter arise naturally

More broadly and collectively, Franck Dubosc wanted to warn all of his actors: “ Be careful, we’re going to make you laugh and smile, but it’s not quite a comedy. You’re going to play serious all the time. It will only be funny when it needs to be. »

By asking them for a certain restraint in the game, humor very quickly ended up finding its place. “ I wanted laughter to arise naturally, almost implicitly, without breaking the dark atmosphere of the film. This brings a discreet lightness that balances the intensity of the story », concludes Franck Dubosc.

Films to end the holidays well

Before school starts again on Monday, you have three days left to enjoy end-of-year films. Distributors, who know well that this festive period is conducive to family outings, launched several cartoons into the battle from the beginning of December. On December 11, Teddy the Pooh’s Christmas et The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim arrived in turn even if they had difficulty finding their audience. It must be said that the great anticipation of young and old alike arrived on December 18 in the person of Mufasa : The lion king. An entirely computer-generated image film that revisits the legend of this iconic Disney character. That week, little ones were not forgotten with the five very beautiful stories of My beautiful tree. « At 12, Bailey lived with his brother Hunter and his father Bug, who raised them alone in a squat in north Kent. Bug doesn’t have much time for them, and Bailey, approaching puberty, seeks attention and adventure elsewhere. » Director Andrea Arnold finds the vein of Fish Tank at the same time as his native Kent, England, for this new feature film presented in the official selection at last year. In this English suburb, we follow young Bailey (revelation Nykiya Adams) in conflict with her family, notably her father (Barry Keoghan), who ends up meeting a strange bird (Franz Rogowski). Poetic, social and as always with Andrea Arnold, very “organic”, Bird is the big film of the start of the year.

The idea for this new film came to him while attending a conference on inheritance rights for same-sex couples: “I immediately thought it was a very interesting idea for a film and so I interviewed several people who had experienced this. In talking with them, I realized that I really had to write a story about this.“The director has produced a strong film of incredible gentleness.

Northern France, 2005: Malik, a police inspector, helplessly witnesses the death of a child following a kidnapping. In charge of the investigation, he fails to find the murderer. Ten years later, with no new information, no trace of a dangerous criminal still at large, the case is about to be closed definitively…” Juan Carlos Medina, Franco-Spanish director born in Florida, is back 12 years after a successful first feature, Insensible. Enough to expect a lot from this “cold case” thriller which promises to be particularly tense and dark. When we know that it is also worn by Sami Bouajila and Julie Gayet, we rush to the theater!
