The American actor will be honored at the 50th edition of the American festival, scheduled for September 6 to 15. He will therefore be traveling to Normandy for the fifth time.

The Deauville festival is slowly revealing the contours of its 50th edition. American actor Michael Douglas will be the guest of honor, the organizers announced Thursday June 27, making the trip to Normandy for the fifth time.

“His mark is indelible”

The love story between the American film festival and the actor of Basic Instinct has lasted for several years. “As he so well recalled in September 2020, when the memory of his father Kirk, the last legend of the golden age of Hollywood who died a few months earlier, was celebrated in Deauville, the name ‘Douglas’ has deeply marked the spirits of the Norman city”, explain the organizers.

“From the Planches to the Hôtel Barrière Le Royal Deauville which bears his name, without forgetting the dark rooms of the Festival, his mark is indelible,” he adds.

“Romantics have not forgotten that it was in Deauville in 1998 that he met the actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who later became his wife,” they recall.

Wall Street, My Life with Liberace, Fatal Attraction and more recently Ant-Man: Michael Douglas’ career has already been rewarded in 2023 with an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He was also back on the Côte d’Azur last April to present Franklin, an Apple TV+ miniseries in which he plays the famous founding father of the United States.

The Deauville festival is scheduled for September 6 to 15, 2024.
