the essential
In Dégagnac, the film crews for the show “Des Racines et des Ailes” took over the Château de Lantis. Threatened with destruction in 1992, the castle restored by the Barbier-Damiette family now hosts numerous events.

Sunday June 23, the program “Roots and Wings” took over the Château de Lantis in Dégagnac. Arcadie Varlamoff, director; Gaspard Baudry, sound engineer and drone operator; and Izvoren Avec, cameraman, set up for 2 days, Sunday June 23 and Monday June 24.

It’s the story of nine portraits of people passionate about heritage and places between Lot and Corrèze. You should know that between the 11th and 18th centuries, the two departments formed a single state, the “Vicomté De Turenne”. Arcadie flew over the castles between Lot and Corrèze, which allowed him to meet people and tell their history.

The director is today at the Château de Lantis, a residence steeped in history, a destiny unlike any other that is both remarkable and improbable. This castle rising from the ground owes its resurrection thanks to the passion, courage and determination of a family who will devote a large part of their lives to it!

Frosted sheep, local producers…

Arcadie and his team were also interested in the story of the “frosted sheep”, a company set up by two friends working in fashion, and who pursued their passion while remaining on their territory. They collect sheep wool from local breeders, with which they make insulated bags. Their project is so successful that they have obtained partnerships with large French companies.

Arcadie then collected the testimony of the chef “Oscar Garcia” between Lot and Corrèze who obtained his first star in the 2024 Michelin Guide. Oscar will introduce several local producers who bring the region to life, particularly in the Monedières massif with Cédric Deguillaume who produces blueberries, but not only. Depending on the climate, a current subject, Cédric redevelops his land with a landscaper to harmonize man’s work with nature. Oscar Garcia will take the team to “Ségur le château”, to meet Mathieu Puel, architect and winemaker, who has just purchased the château with the noble intention of restoring its prestige. (At the time it was the Bordeaux Court of Appeal). They will then follow a company working with the oldest slate quarry in Corrèze. They went to meet these deserving women and men who sculpt the slate by learning on the job. Without them, the profession would disappear!

It is at the “black rocks viaduct” that Arcadie will portray a young “structural engineer” whose job, among other things, is to check if everything is going well. Under Raymond Poincaré, this suspension bridge made it possible to connect several small isolated villages at a time when it was very important to travel. This viaduct was closed, but it is currently restored and must be reopened to pedestrians in September 2024. Finally, Arcadia went to the castle of Lentillac-Saint-Blaise, where since his childhood, a man had promised himself to acquire this jewel of heritage. He embarked on an ambitious project to restore the castle, which had been uninhabited for several years. Françoise Barbier-Damiette is happy and proud of the choice made by this team. “It’s a chance for the Lot,” she will say!

The broadcast of this report will highlight our department and the historic monuments that dot our territory.
