CULTURE – Bringing the best of stand-up to the South of France. This is the new bet of Gad Elmaleh, who announced this Tuesday, June 4 that he is embarking on a new project very linked to his career. Following in the footsteps of his friend Jamel Debbouze and his Marrakech of laughter, the Canadian-Moroccan comedian created his own humor festival: “Jubil.”

“It’s a word that sums up joy, excitement, fraternity, humor…” he explains very enthusiastically in an interview with Parisian. This new international laughter meeting will open in Nice in October 2025. The list of guest comedians, a dozen, will be revealed at the beginning of 2025.

“I won’t choose them because they are my favorites or my friends, but because they are the best. I want to make them shine: I’ve done festivals all my life, I know what they need”, indicates Gad Elmaleh. In summary, it will be “stars and revelations in whom we have great confidence”he confides.

For those who cannot go to Nice or buy a ticket, it will be possible to follow the event on television, in the form of a program presented by Gad Elmaleh in person. To build his project, the comedian joined forces with another big name in the industry: Grégoire Furrer, patron among others of the prestigious Montreux Comedy Festival, in Switzerland.

“We really have a strong desire to bring an important new event to the French-speaking and international landscape”explains the latter. “The basic desire of the project is the joy of finding all these artists from all over the world for a crazy week,” he says again.

Both have the ambition to create “more than a festival”. The idea is that there will not only be one big evening with the guests, but several local stages such as Sckotfish, or even different comedy clubs relocated for the occasion. The icing on the promise: the duo is betting on bringing together in Nice not only French artists, but also talents from the Mediterranean, Africa and the whole world, making people laugh in English.
