Cate Blanchett mocked by internet users after saying she is ‘middle class’

Cate Blanchett is being mocked for saying she’s “middle class” despite her estimated net worth of $95 million.

The “Tár” actress, who has amassed millions from a highly successful acting career, was attending a United Nations press conference during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival when she made the statement.

When asked about her experience as a UN ambassador and giving opportunities to refugee filmmakers, she said: “I’m white, I’m privileged, I’m middle class, and I think, you know , that one can be accused of having a bit of a white savior complex, but to be completely honest, my interaction with refugees on the ground and also in resettlement environments has totally changed my perspective on the world .”

Cate, who has long campaigned for humanitarian causes, noted how she was “extremely grateful” for the experience and encouraged others with a platform to create a “dialogue with these people.”

She added: “I met some amazing people with fantastic creative talents and amazing perspective.”

On social media, her fans immediately started trolling the star for saying she’s “middle class…

One fumed: “You think you’re middle class, Cate Blanchett?”, while another fumed: I love Cate Blanchett, but how can she be middle class? “middle class” ? She has starred in two major films and her fortune is estimated at $90 million.
