American actor John Ashton, known for his role as Detective John Taggart in the “Beverly Hills Cop” films, has died at the age of 76.

Ashton “passed away peacefully” last Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado, a representative for the actor told NBC News in a statement. The cause of his death has not yet been revealed by his family members.

During his career which spanned more than 40 years, the actor starred in several well-known films and series, including “Midnight Run” with Robert de Niro, “Little Big League” and “Gone Baby Gone”.

John Ashton is best known for the role of Detective John Taggert in the “Berverly Hills Cop” films, alongside comedian and actor Eddie Murphy. The 76-year-old actor was back in his usual role when the latest “Bervely Hills Cop” was released in 2024.

The American is survived by his wife Robin Hoye, to whom he was married for 24 years, his two children, his three stepchildren, his grandson, his two sisters and his brother.
