In the case of the singer of “I Believe I Can Fly”, it is the documentary Surviving R. Kellyreleased in January 2019 after an initial investigation by BuzzFeed in 2017 and the BBC the following year, which triggered the opening of an investigation and then a first indictment in February 2019. He is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for the production of child pornography and sex crimes.

Regarding the King of Pop, Leaving Neverland revived the child molestation charges against the singer ten years after his death in 2009 and thirteen years after his acquittal. P. Diddy falls somewhere in between.

Diddy, rapper and leader of a multifaceted business empireA documentary was announced by crime channel Investigation Discovery shortly after his arrest “for sex trafficking, extortion and transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution” and the courts’ refusal to grant him bail.

The fall

No title has been released yet, but the docuseries will air next year. It will chronicle the “rise and fall” of Sean Combs, his namesake. “As reports of sexual assault, abusive behavior and other disturbing allegations surface, the documentary traces the story of this bad boy self-proclaimed, untangling the allegations of a pattern of depravity,” the channel announced in a press release relayed by the Hollywood Reporter.

To fuel its project, Investigation Discovery is also expected to bring in several of Puff Daddy’s accusers and use archival footage. This docuseries is expected to draw heavily on the magazine’s investigation Rolling Stone who was the first to look into the rapper’s behavior by collecting and cross-checking several testimonies.

Pending judgment

Since then, complaints of violence and sexual assault have been filed against Sean Combs. The most high-profile, which was settled in two days with a plea deal, was that of his former girlfriend, the singer Cassie. While some had accused the young woman of having extorted money from the rap billionaire – as he himself had largely implied – these allegations evaporated when CNN broadcast video surveillance from a hotel.

In it, Cassie is seen trying to escape and is stopped by a P. Diddy, wearing nothing but a towel around his waist, who beats her up in front of the elevators. The singer later publicly apologized, saying he was “really sorry.”

Combs’ indictment comes after a dramatic raid by authorities, organized simultaneously at two of his properties, in Miami and Los Angeles, in March. The FBI found, during its search, guns, ammunition, narcotics and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant, used, according to the plaintiffs, for his “Freak Off” parties, described by the prosecutor as “elaborate and organized” parties with the aim of having sex – whether consensual or not, that will be up to the courts to decide.

The next hearing has been set for September 24. Until then, P. Diddy remains in jail, having been denied bail. According to Peoplethe artist was reportedly placed under surveillance at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn where he is incarcerated, having been deemed suicidal.
