Formula 1 | Sainz admits 'it hurts' to be snubbed by Red Bull or Mercedes

Carlos Sainz admits that he “still don’t understand” the decisions regarding the rejection of his candidacy by the top teams this year.

Sainz was one of the best drivers on the market after learning he would lose his seat at Ferrari in 2025 to Lewis Hamilton.

But the options at Red Bull, Mercedes and Aston Martin did not materialize and he preferred to sign for Williams rather than the new Audi F1 project.

“I am definitely at peace with myself, about my choices or the way I negotiated. I sincerely believe that if I did not stay in a top team, it is because life did not want me to go.”

“It's because something else will come along that will turn out to be good. It hurt me at the time. We all have egos, I have a pilot's ego.”

“I couldn't understand it at the time. I still don't understand some of the choices people made. But it creates more challenges in me and makes me more enthusiastic about Williams.”

“Williams invested in me, supported me from the beginning, contacted me a year ago. It makes me excited, I want to give back to them what they gave me. It gives me strength. I can’t wait to get out there and build something good.”
