On Saturday November 16, 2024, although Gabonese voters did not rush to the polling stations, the official results reveal that the “Yes” vote won almost everything in its path. The results show an overwhelming “Yes” victory, meaning that the Gabonese supported the draft Constitution proposed by the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI).
From Libreville to Franceville, via Oyem, Koula-Moutou, Lambaréné, Mouila, Tchibanga, Port-Gentil, and even in the diaspora, the majority expressed themselves in favor of “Yes”, thus reflecting their vision for future of the country. Although this “Yes” is not massive in terms of participation, the atmosphere on the ground, despite the official figures, indicates that this election represents a historic moment for Gabonese politics.
This referendum is part of the implementation of the Transition roadmap, following the Inclusive National Dialogue which took place from April 2 to 30, 2024.
However, everything was not perfect, like the timid turnout observed in Greater Libreville, particularly at the Martine-Oulabou public school voting center, which is generally a barometer of participation.
