Liam Lawson returned to the episode of the middle finger aimed at Sergio Pérez during the Mexican Grand Prix.
After contact with Pérez during the race, Lawson gave him the middle finger as he overtook him. A bad move that the New Zealander admitted he should not have made.
This battle between the two men was all the more symbolic as Liam Lawson is fighting to get Sergio Pérez's seat at Red Bull.
Lawson also admitted that his father had not appreciated the middle finger given to the Mexican during the race in Mexico.
“I'm lucky to have someone like my father, who played an important role in my upbringing as a man, but also as a pilot, when I was growing up and trying to 'be professional in this sport'explained Lawson, during an interview on the TFN show for the New Zealand media Stuff.

Lawson: “Not something I should have done”
“Il [son père] kept me grounded, I would say, and that's something it's done since I was a kid. So, you know, he wasn't happy and I totally understand why. And obviously, like I said, it’s not something I should have done, and I’ll learn from it.”
“My father scolded me”, he also said, smiling. “As he has done many times over the years.”
Liam Lawson is having a somewhat unusual start to his F1 career. After showing great promise in 2023 in a few races as a replacement for the injured Daniel Ricciardo, he had to wait an additional year to find a starting seat, in place of the Australian.
His return to the wheel within the Faenza-based team confirmed the promises of last season. Upon his return, he made an incredible comeback from 19th to 9th place in Austin, before scoring two new points in Brazil in Dantean conditions where some young drivers sank.
In just three race weekends in 2024, the New Zealander has already registered four points, a form which could perhaps allow him to replace Sergio Pérez at Red Bull.
