Farmers are mobilizing this Monday evening in Guéret

No time to breathe! At the call of the FDSEA and the JA, farmers are back in action this Monday, November 18. Around a hundred people gathered in front of the gates of the prefecture in Guéret. Elected officials with tricolor scarves around their waists came to support them. The mayor of Guéret is present, as is the president of the Grand Guéret agglomeration, the mayor of Saint-Sulpice-le-Guérétois and the deputy for Creuse. After having covered the municipal road signs on Sunday eveningthe farmers light “the fires of anger“. They burn logs and pallet wood in barrels arranged in front of the prefecture gates.

“We walk on our heads”

The president of the FDSEA spoke. Christian Arvis castigates “the rant of our senior politicians while Creuse agriculture is going through dark times”. For him the signing of Mercosur, the free trade treaty between the European Union and the Mercosur countries, “it’s the death of French agriculture“. Il warns the prefect of Creuse came to meet them. “It can't last much longer like this. There are some who give up, others who want to fight. Not us, but we have our backs full“.

In turn, the president of the Chamber of Agriculture speaks. Pascal Lerousseau explains that it is not “for pleasure“that farmers are still on the streets. He also denounces Mercosur. If it is signed he said “we will no longer have any farmers in France. We can't be asked to be whiter than white and bring in junk“.
