Jacques and Gabriella from Monaco increasingly accompany their parents Albert and Charlène during public events. The prince explained in a recent interview how he and his wife were slowly preparing them for their future obligations.
While Jacques and Gabriella, now aged 10, see their public appearances multiply over the years, their famous parents, Albert and Charlène of Monaco, still ensure that they maintain a semblance of “normal life » for children of their age, while gently preparing them for the obligations that will be theirs in a few years.
Interviewed by Riviera Radio on the occasion of the end-of-year celebrations, Prince Albert of Monaco, 47, confided that although the two children participate more and more in the traditional festivities of the principality and some inaugurations, his wife Charlène and he took care to limit their media exposure.
“It has to be done in small steps, we can’t just impose it on them by saying ‘ok you’re going to do this, you’re going to do that, and you have to do this, be nice and smile’. We do things but I don’t want to make them do too much and they still need to be able to live their childhood and have fun with their friends,” explained the son of Prince Rainier III (1923-2005) and Grace Kelly (1929 -1982).
Aware of the difficulties
According to him, Jacques and Gabriella are all the same “more and more aware of their role and what is expected of them or what will be expected of them. We are going there gradually so as not to knock them out and we are trying to protect them from excessive media attention, which is very difficult, but we are aware of it. They are involved and you will see them again at regular intervals. But we don’t want to stress them out with too many commitments.”
In 2023 Princess Charlene of Monaco gave an interview to Monaco-Matin in which she discussed the role played by her children, Jacques and Gabriella, within the principality.
“My husband and I believe that at school and in their daily activities, they live like any other child their age,” Princess Charlene explained. […] For the rest, our family surrounds them to understand their role.”
