In recent weeks, we’ve heard Jeep say it’s going to offer an electric SUV for around $25,000 US. Yesterday, the company confirmed that this product was going to be a new generation of the Renegade, which left us at the end of 2023, but which is so unpopular that it still appears on the Jeep Canada website… as a 2023 model.

The electric SUV would make its debut for the year 2027. Obviously, it will only retain the name Renegade, which is an excellent thing, because this small utility vehicle, apart from its style, had nothing really interesting.

Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed the model during a presentation to investors. And as you might expect these days, gasoline and hybrid powertrains are not out of the question.

What catches the eye, however, is the promised bill. What is unclear, however, is whether the price takes into account the discounts offered. It would be surprising, but the question has been raised.

Stellantis big boss Carlos Tavares also spoke at the event. He explained that the company will need to produce lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries for the $25,000 price point to be possible in the United States. Currently, the company cannot produce the less expensive LFP batteries in the United States, which could pose a barrier to obtaining federal tax credits.

The promise is there for the price of the vehicle, but other promises will have to be kept for it to become possible. Let’s be careful.

Several other electric models are expected from Jeep, but apart from the Wagoneer S which is confirmed for this year, mystery hovers over the Recon and all the other electrified versions which are expected from this brand.
