Fraud and manipulation techniques continue to develop and so do the solutions to counter them, even if firewalls are not 100% effective.

Faced with phishing SMS and emails, calls from fake bank advisors and more generally scams via telephones, operators are essential players. Julien Lasalle, secretary of the Observatory for the Security of Payment Means, welcomes “a very strong level of mobilization” on the part of telcos, but indicates that there is still work to better protect the French.

In particular, we expect the establishment of the Number Authentication Mechanism (MAN) by next October. Once this solution is applied, “operators will be required to authenticate all calls they make and to disconnect non-compliant calls. This is a very strong obligation, which has no equivalent in the world” explains Romain Bonenfant, general director of the French Telecoms Federation (FFT). A solution which should make it possible to prevent usurping the number of a bank or other for example.

Other areas of improvement are planned, such as the fact that SMS prompting people to click on links can be blocked by all operators, or even closer collaboration being established between Apple and Google. “ OSes often provide devices that allow numbers to be blocked or reported.recalls Julien Lasalle. This data should go back to the operators so that they can also analyze it “.
