In March, Morocco received 61,580 tonnes of Russian wheat at the port of Casablanca, or 25.76% of its total imports during this month. These figures place Russia third on the list of main wheat suppliers to Morocco last month, behind France (114,611 tonnes) and Germany (62,830 tonnes), according to the latest statistics from the National Federation of Traders. in cereals and legumes (FNCL). In April, the kingdom imported 239,021 tonnes compared to 598,530 tonnes purchased in March, a net decrease of 359,509 tonnes. The volume of wheat imported by Morocco in January and April 2024 amounts to 1,844,607 tonnes, far from the objective of 2.5 million tonnes set by the National Interprofessional Office for Cereals and Legumes (ONICL), on November 21, 2023, when announcing the establishment of a new refund system for the importation of soft wheat. In a statement to the site Le360Omar Yacoubi, president of the National Federation of Cereal and Legume Traders (FNCL) explained that imports vary depending on market conditions, the most competitive origins and the supply needs of the local market.
