Paying farmers and sharing value: what action should professionals take? Launch of a new consultation for farmers on the agora application

The Government is launching a new online consultation for professionals in the agricultural sector. This consultation, in the form of a questionnaire on the Agora application, focuses on questions of farmer remuneration, simplification and transparency in this sector. Its objective is to collect the opinions of farmers in the context of a potential evolution of the EGAlim laws. Farmers are invited to participate until June 3, via the Agora application.

Ask farmers about remuneration and transparency issues

The EGAlim laws placed farmers at the heart of price construction in order to create a direct link between their production cost and the price paid in stores. Faced with certain difficulties, particularly in commercial relations and in the sharing of value, these laws will be adapted in order to make them simpler, more effective and more protective.

Construction of the price of agricultural products, compulsory implementation of contracts in the sector, negotiation practices with buyers… Through several questions, professionals in the agricultural sector are questioned on themes linked to their remuneration and their commercial practices. These questions aim to collect their opinions and comments, until June 3.

Based on the results of this consultation, the parliamentary mission will include the retained contributions in its report. The Government will then adopt the proposals for reform of the EGAlim laws which it considers necessary to guarantee fairer remuneration for farmers.

Question 7/45 Should the construction of the price of agricultural products with the first buyer be based solely on indicators of agricultural production costs?

Two possible answers:

  • Yes, the production cost indicators are sufficient.
  • The production cost indicators are not sufficient, several indicators are needed (quality, markets, etc.)

A second consultation, complementary and open to all French people, is also available: “Better paying farmers: what levers for the consumer? ». It aims to collect consumer opinions on the same themes through questions on their purchasing practices.

To participate, simply download the agora application and respond to
around twenty multiple choice or free response questions (5 to 10 minutes)

Agora, an application to make your voice heard in a few clicks

The AGORA application allows every French person to give their opinion and ask questions on everyday subjects. It allows you to express yourself quickly and simply, to be kept informed of the major stages of decision-making and to directly challenge the Government to add new themes to the government agenda.

The application is based on two complementary functionalities:

  • Participate in consultations proposed by ministers in order to give your opinion in a few clicks, then follow their progress over the months. Each month, new themes will be covered.
  • Ask questions to the Government on current issues. Each week, the relevant minister or Government spokesperson answers the question which has received the most support on the application.
