For 30 years, this small library in has been running thanks to its volunteers

Created at the end of 1994, the Dadonville municipal library celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. As Luce Noguier, its coordinator, recalls, initially, “the project was driven by Claude Laurent, the mayor and his team. It corresponded to a demand. Housing estates were being built with a young population arriving with children. This population was demanding.”

This is how the library was created in the premises of a former school. “We have brought the book closer to the population. And we have the schools located right next door,” she adds. Children from Dadonville kindergarten and CP, CE1 and CE2 schooled in the town come there regularly for reading time, with their teachers and volunteers. Which represents seven classes.

Up to 140 members

The proximity of the music school, located right next door, in the association room, brought readers back to the library.
The structure had up to 140 members, but the health crisis passed through… Today, the library has around sixty members. It runs thanks to the involvement of eleven volunteers. There are no employees unlike other libraries in the surrounding area (Puiseaux, Bellegarde, etc.).

The library is open Wednesday afternoon.

To develop it, the team would like to set up activities, particularly for early childhood. And open the places more widely. Currently, the library is open to the general public from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The ideal could be to open on Saturday. But for this, more availability is needed. “We are ready to welcome new volunteers,” emphasizes Luce Noguier. “People who like contact, books, who would like to create animations.” Software, rating, book circuit… A short training course is provided before getting started.

“A meeting place”

Although the library is not very large in terms of surface area, it still has a collection of nearly 3,000 books, two thirds of which are for children. The Departmental Media Library sends around twenty books each month, which makes it possible to offer new products to members.

The team would like to create a friendly space in 2025, because, beyond borrowing books, “the library is a meeting place.”

Membership in the Dadonville library is free.
