Glenn Verbauwhede is a character apart from Belgian football. He notably confirmed an urban legend about him.
The story has been circulating for some time: former goalkeeper Glenn Verbauwhede allegedly had sex in the center circle of every first division stadium.
It was one of his close friends who spread the rumor. While appearing on the show “Gert’s Table”, he was questioned on this subject. “I’m afraid that’s true,” he laughed.
Whether he is proud of it is another matter, even if he is far from shying away from the subject. “When I made it to Kortrijkit was filmed”. The former KV goalkeeper coach must however admit that he did not do it in 100% of the central rounds of D1A.
A fantasy like any other?
“At the Jan Breydelstadion, I didn’t dare,” he confesses. The reason? Antoine Vanhove (the former technical director of Club Brugge, who died in 2009) used the field to do exercises with…his pigeons.
Glenn Verbauwhede therefore had to find an alternative. He turned to another place in the stadium: “In the caterer’s kitchen. It was done on a stainless steel plate.” Hoping for the people of Bruges at the time that the food remained fresh in the days that followed…
