According to the French Booksellers’ Union (SLF), one in three bookstores is threatened with closure in France due to the proposed European regulation on payment terms.
However, this has not discouraged two new players in the French literary landscape: Re-Read and Dolpo.
We recently learned of the opening of Re-Read in France, a Spanish concept of low-cost bookstore. Located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, it is the first address of a concept that has proven itself with 57 bookstores in Spain.
Re-Rad – One Price
This second-hand bookstore buys books at a single price (€0.25) to resell them at a single price: one book at €4, two books at €7 and five books at €15. Contrary to the image of a dusty bookstore where books pile up without coherence, Re-Read offers a neat design and a methodical classification of the works.
The objective is twofold: to offer a bookstore in a circular and eco-responsible economy while making culture accessible to all thanks to attractive prices.
Dolpo – Technology at the service of readers
Dolpo, on the other hand, offers a different concept. It is an online book sales platform.
Its goal is to help readers find the perfect book using powerful algorithms. The bookstore is equipped with advanced mapping tools, such as the world map tool which is based on more than 500 criteria to offer a relevant selection of books.
For example, by entering criteria such as “I want a detective story that takes place in Spain (or Iceland or Brazil…), black novel type (or humorous), during the interwar period or “now”, with a heroine and new technologies”, you will get a precise answer.
To complete this experience, the platform also offers “outside the walls” advice with humans.
In addition, it is soon planning a virtual digital library augmented with individualized advice.
Thanks to a scan of your physical library at home, the site will offer to enrich your library with monitoring of new releases for your favorite authors and series.
