“This is one of our most emblematic projects and probably one of the most architecturally beautiful, mixing both modernity and tradition,” said Michel Pélieu, president of the departmental council of Hautes-Pyrénées.

Demolition operations are completed

By 2025, the building of the former Normal School, located in the city center of Tarbeswill welcome the news Departmental archives. This project, the amount of which is estimated at 17.75 million euroswas launched at the end of 2022.

The year 2023 will have been the construction phase bringing the most transformations to the site. Indeed, demolition and geothermal operations followed one another.

“The enclosed phase of the extension of the Archives building is coming to an end. The pouring of the concrete roof on the third floor has been completed. The ongoing work on the slate roofing and the installation of the glass roof which closes the central patio will ensure that the building is waterproofed at the end of June. »

At the same time, work in the existing building continues. “The floor of the office floor is completed,” explains the Hautes-Pyrénées department. “The volumes of the public spaces on the ground floor are taking shape. At the beginning of 2025, a process of drying out the premises will be necessary before the gradual relocation of the archive funds. »

The old buildings housed, from 1883 to 1965, the old teacher training school which was common to the departments of Hautes-Pyrénées and Gers. Currently, the Hautes-Pyrénées Departmental Archives service has a main site, rue des Ursulines, and two annexes.

Now saturated, these spaces require the construction of a new building that meets current document conservation standards.
