The interpreter of Daenerys Targaryen returns in an interview to the two strokes she suffered, and to the difficulties of returning to work after such an ordeal.

British actress Emilia Clarke, revealed by the series Game Of Thrones, looks back on his two ruptured aneurysms that occurred during the filming of the hit series. The 37-year-old artist spoke to the Big Issue newspaper to raise awareness about the difficulties of returning to work by discussing his own experience, and his fears that this health problem could cost him his role:

“A stroke alters your perception of yourself in a very significant way, and any insecurities you feel when entering the job market are multiplied by four overnight,” she explains.

“The biggest fear we all had was, ‘Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Am I going to get fired because they don’t think I can do my job?”

Two accidents in two years

Emilia Clarke played Daenerys Targaryen, one of the main characters of Game Of Thrones, between 2011 and 2019. His first ruptured aneurysm took place in 2011, between filming the first two seasons. She was then 24 years old. The second came two years later.

Alongside her mother, she founded SameYou in 2019, a charity helping people with strokes. Their work earned them the title of Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), awarded by Prince William last February.

“Having a chronic illness that reduces your self-confidence to do what you believe is your reason for being is so degrading. You feel so alone,” she continues. “That’s what we’re trying to fight against.”

Since the end of the successful series, Emilia Clarke has appeared in the cinema in Last Christmas And Solo: A Star Wars Story. She will soon be featured in biopics McCarthy And An Ideal Wife.
