A unique personality in the world of rock, Lenny Kravitz is recognized across the planet for his showmanship and his wild guitar riffs. But as he passed the 60-year mark, the man who shared the life of Vanessa Paradis spoke openly on many subjects. And in particular on his relationship with women, with a major revelation…

Sunglasses, leather pants, impeccable dreadlocks: in the 1990s, the French discovered the whimsical character of Lenny Kravitz, at the same time that he and Vanessa Paradis embarked on a highly publicized relationship. Together from 1991 to 1996 (even 1997), the date of their separation after several tumultuous years, the two artists never saw each other again. And with hindsight, Kravitz deplores his behavior:

I had a lot of trouble dealing with certain demons, particularly that of my relationship with my father. I didn’t understand why he chased after women so much. And inevitably, we very quickly reproduce the same patterns… Vanessa was the perfect woman, but she arrived at the wrong time. I regret.

This relationship with infidelity is decisive in the rocker’s personal life. According to him, he is conditioned by the sentence of his father, also unfaithful, who had guaranteed him that he would follow in his footsteps. Kravitz explained in his memoirs:

After meeting him at 17, Vanessa Paradis talks about Serge Gainsbourg: “He was…”

I didn’t understand the severity of this statement, and it was not the response my mother expected. I think he was just speaking his truth. He had the same experience with his father, which was one of the reasons he left home young and went into the military.

He had tried to get out of it, only to repeat his father’s story. He just thought it was a generational problem that I too would repeat. It’s quite profound – it’s like something out of a play. And I didn’t realize its power until I got older, and I had to really work on it and understand it and conquer it. It took all my energy and effort throughout my life.

Lenny Kravitz sober for 9 years

In a very recent interview with the “Guardian”, the interpreter of “Are you gonna my way” gave news of this process. Very attached to this quest that he has embarked on, he notably revealed that he has not had sexual relations for almost 10 years:

I had become more and more like my father, I played (with women, editor’s note). I didn’t like it, I didn’t want to be that guy. So I tackled this problem, and it took years. I took my responsibilities. I forced myself to be disciplined, not to let my desires take over.

I have been single and sober for 9 years. It’s a spiritual question. I want to find the woman who suits me.

Far from his years as a womanizer, which he regrets today and which he believes are linked to what his father put in his head, Lenny Kravitz is a changed man. Let us wish him to find the happiness he seeks so much, he who seems to be a definitively changed man.
