By going through the monthly judgments made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), several restaurants have often returned to our rankings. Our colleagues at 24 hours found the 12 Montreal restaurants that received more than $10,000 in hefty fines in 2024. Phew!

1. Marven’s Restaurant
880, avenue Ball – Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension
In 2024, the establishment was condemned three times because it did not keep the premises “free of contaminants, pollutants, any species of animals including insects and rodents or their excrement”.
Total fines: $15,300
2. Wow Sushi plus
50, rue Rachel Est – Le Plateau-Mont-Royal
The year 2024 will not have been easy for this Japanese establishment. The operator who was operating on the date of the offenses ceased operations and was convicted three times for offenses occurring between November 2022 and March 2023, including not exempting “contaminants, pollutants, any species of animals there including insects and rodents or their excrement.

3. La Belle Province
1663 Dollard Avenue – LaSalle
This LaSalle snack bar received seven fines from a MAPAQ inspector, particularly for the general condition of the premises and equipment.
Total fines: $11,700
4. Beijing Restaurant
92, rue de la Gauchetière West – Ville-Marie
Twice this year, this Chinatown establishment was fined for failing to be “free of contaminants, pollutants, any species of animals including insects and rodents, or their excrement.”
Total fines: $12,800
5. Chez Milie
3183, rue Jarry Est – Saint-Michel
For a second year in a row, this restaurant in the north of the metropolis received more than $10,000 in fines from MAPAQ, for various reasons, including the distribution of single-use items.
Total fines: $10,200
6. Peking Garden Restaurant
4794, boulevard Saint-Jean – Dollard-des-Ormeaux
In 2024 alone, this restaurant in western Montreal received eight fines for offenses occurring in 2022 and 2023.
The majority of findings relate to cleanliness and poor condition of the premises as well as poor handling of alterable products.

7. Delicious Mei Mei
1023, boulevard Saint-Laurent – Ville-Marie
This Chinatown establishment has received six fines over the past 12 months, notably for carrying out its activities without a permit.
Total fines: $13,800
8. Ojo
9468, boulevard Lacordaire – Saint-Léonard
Of the six fines received in 2024, two concern the absence of a catering permit.

9. Restaurant Amigo
1027, boulevard Saint-Laurent – Ville-Marie
According to the judgment of the Montreal Municipal Court rendered on July 26, this restaurant located on the street in the heart of Chinatown would have operated an installation without holding a valid permit.
The MAPAQ website specifies that “the operator who was operating on the date of the offense [en février 2023] ceased its operations.
Total fines: $15,000
10. Buffalo Bill Wings
5248, chemin Queen-Mary – Côte-des-Neiges
Last May, a hefty fine was imposed by the Montreal Municipal Court, since “no one may, without holding a valid permit, operate a place or vehicle where the activity of restaurateur is carried out.”
Another statement of offense was also issued in January.

11. ImpacTaco
7091, rue Saint-Hubert – Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie
Of the five fines received over the past year by this restaurant located near rue Jean-Talon, three concern places which have not been free of “contaminants, pollutants, all species of animals therein. including insects and rodents, or their excrement” during a visit by an inspector.
Total fines: $12,600
12. Baton Rouge
7999, boulevard des Galeries-d’Anjou – Anjou
The steakhouse was convicted three times for violations occurring in 2023 regarding the presence of “contaminants, pollutants, any species of animals including insects and rodents, or their excrement” on the premises.
Total fines: $10,500
