At the end of April, a Belgian couple living in Tenerife disappeared. The body of the woman, Laura, was found mutilated, the husband, Marc, cannot be found. A neighbor and friend of the couple testified.

While the case of the disappearance of Marc and Laura, a Belgian couple who disappeared on the Spanish island, has taken a completely different turn since the arrest of three people more than a week ago, the emotion is still raw for the relatives. One of the couple’s neighbors confided in our colleagues at The future.

“Today we miss it”

His name is Michel, he is Brazilian by origin, he arrived in Tenerife 30 years ago and lives in the same neighborhood as Laura Trappeniers and Marc Olbrechts, in Callao Salvaje, in the south of the island. He explains that the couple settled there about fifteen years ago and then returns to the disappearance. “We still had no news. My father then went to the police to report the facts. So the alarm was raised.”he says.

Michel explains that Marc and Laura felt good on the island and also got along very well with the neighbors, with whom they shared certain outings. “We often had aperitifs and occasionally ate with them, with family or friends. Today, we miss that”he remembers.

The friend and neighbor explains that Marc and Laura had a cat called Patty, but that she had been alone since the disappearance of their masters. We fed her, we cuddled her. A month ago, we decided to adopt her. She now lives with me, with my dog, and with my daughter.”he declared to our Belgian colleagues from The future.

Three men arrested

On April 22, 2024, Marc, 71, and Laura, 66, a Belgian couple living on the island of Tenerife, disappeared. On April 27, Laura’s remains were found in the water southeast of Tenerife, but several body parts were missing: both legs and a hand. Traces of blows and a plastic bag tied over the head were noted by the Guardia Civil officers.

Three men have since been arrested, two in Belgium and one in Tenerife. These are a father and his son who were there at the time of the disappearance and who left the island the day Laura was found, and another individual who lives only a hundred meters from the couple and who also knew the father and son.

Investigations are continuing in order to shed light on this mystery which has persisted for a little over two months now.
