The 4 Body Parts We Often Forget When Applying Sunscreen

Summer is finally here and with it, the return of the sun! While it is important to protect your skin by applying sunscreen, be careful not to forget these 4 parts of the body.

After a more than disappointing month of June in terms of weather, summer is finally here and the sun has finally come out. Many French people will therefore take advantage of the sunny days to go on vacation, relax at the beach or by a swimming pool. And for good reason, it’s difficult to imagine a summer vacation without thinking of sunbathing. But, it’s no secret that you still need to remember to protect your skin from the sun during the summer season.

Indeed, if we love to tan in the summer to look better, the sun is very bad for the skin. Not protecting yourself from the sun’s rays can cause skin cancers or premature aging of the skin. To better understand what we risk if we do not apply sunscreen, -.fr interviewed Christophe Bedane, professor of dermatology.

What Sunburn Does to Your Skin

The latter explains that sunburn is “a first or even second degree burn if the skin blisters. The burn is triggered by les UVB (less by UVA)”. As a result, the skin becomes red and pain appears and “often the pain will manifest itself at night”, explains Christophe Bedane before adding that we will “to have a cooking, burning sensation”.

Sunscreen therefore helps prevent your skin from burning because it blocks UVB rays. And the index: 20, 30 or 50 is an indication linked to the weather. “If we take a sunscreen with an index of 50, this means that we have 50 times more time to have the same biological effect on the skin. For example, if I get sunburned in 10 minutes , it will take 50 times 10 minutes with an index 50 sunscreen, or approximately 500 minutes so a little over 8 hours”, explains the specialist.

These 4 parts of the body that we forget to protect from the sun

To properly protect your skin from the sun, you should apply 2 milligrams per square centimeter of sunscreen, every two hours at least, which represents a good layer. To get an idea, you would have to smear the equivalent of 3 knuckles on your face. And if you apply all of these tips to the letter, you must not neglect these 4 parts of the body:

  • Ears,
  • The neck,
  • Hands,
  • The feet,

Indeed, these parts of the body tend to be forgotten and yet they also need protection from the sun. “Regularly, I see people who have terrible sunburns on the soles of their feet. Falling asleep in the sun, without putting cream on that area, can cause painful burns,” concludes the dermatologist.
